Seighford fishing report

week ending 4/09/11

Trout Fishing.

Early morning and late evening has been the key to trout fishing this week with the warmer weather continuing but rain at the end of the week has livened up the fishing with fish being caught through the day. With the addition of some much needed water the fish are rising to dry flies through the day and hopefully with the wetter weather forecast for a few more days the fishing will return to its normal by the next week.

Anglers have been catching fish on small imitative patterns like Daddies, Damsels, Shuttlecock, diawl bachs and other small nymphs (and the occasional Blob)

The Railway Pool is still currently closed, and will be reopened with a large stocking of fish once the water level is back to normal.

Hot spots on the Swan Neck have been the double peg and pegs either side of Jock's tree with larger fish caught from the two pegs by the lodge.

S. Tipper had an active evenings sport landing 4 Rainbows using a floating line and small CDC on a long leader. He tempted the fish by giving it the odd twitch on the line to keep the fly on the move. Best fish was Approx 5lb.

Coarse Fishing.

Another brilliant weeks fishing on the Old Pool with some large Carp being caught even from the pegs that don't always produce. Alana Turner had a good session on peg 20 with a good bag of 10 Carp to approx 55 lb her second fish being just shy of 10lb. James Carr also had a great day landing his best ever Mirror Carp, The pristine looking fish took the needle on the scales round to 13lb 8oz. He landed just shy of 40lb of Carp through out the day on peg 3 using pellet and paste.

The water level has been very low but with the addition of some water in the latter stages of the week the fishing is bound to get even better.

Best baits this week have been Pellet and paste, worm, meat and sweetcorn with the ever reliable maggot taking Silvers to fill in any quiet spells.

The Horse shoe Pool has fished superb this week, with every angler catching plenty of fish, maggot and corn have been the best baits on the small 11 peg lake. Carp to 6lb have been landed. Richard Wesly also landed a bonus 2lb Perch using worm. He was fishing tight against the island using a whip.

We do still have a few dates left for club matches on the Old Pool. For details on dates and prices. Please contact the lodge phone on 01785 282967. Tight lines
