Seighford fishing report

 week ending  31/5/09

Trout Fishing.

Now the weather has heated up, the fish have tended to shy away from bigger flies and thick nylon. The majority of the fish have been caught using small imative patterns, fished on light floracorban. Most of the good bags have been taken from the Railway Pool, with the water been a little murkier, making the fish feed better during the day. The Swans Neck Pool has produced most of its fish early morning and late evening. Dry fly sport should be good until the weed rises to the surface. Small CDC’s, Hoppers, Black Knats and even the odd May Fly will catch you Trout in the evenings; while during the day fishing with small Nymphs and Lures will be your best chance.

Coarse Fishing.

Fish have been high in the water this week, making them hard to tempt. Fishing off the bottom has produced some good bags of Carp and Bream. Seighford held the very first open match this Sunday. Fishing started off well with all anglers catching fish in the first hour, but as the day got warmer the fish became harder to catch. A new peg was added to the bottom end of the Old Pool this week and was fished for the first time by Wayne Waterhouse in the open.

Wayne was the overall winner, weighing 29lbs 1oz with a mixed bag of Carp and Bream. Wayne fished a pole all day feeding pellet and maggot, switching between corn, pellet and maggot on the hook. Richard Mynett took second place, weighing 27lbs fished from peg 4. Richard caught the majority of his fish up in the water using the pellet waggler fished to the reeds in the middle. Tony Beresford finished third, from peg 21 weighing 22lbs 15ozs.
